Baia di Ieranto is a marine nature reserve managed by FAI (Italy's National Trust), occupying the dramatic headland directly across from Capri's Faraglioni. This is not a sand beach โ it is a rocky shoreline with crystal-clear water in a protected bay where Homer's sirens supposedly sang. The only way in is a 40-minute hike from the village of Nerano through olive groves and Mediterranean scrubland, descending to the coast with Capri growing larger with every step. No facilities exist: no bar, no shade, no trash bins (carry everything out). The swimming is world-class โ transparent water over a rocky bottom teeming with fish. One of the most beautiful natural sites in southern Italy.
Drive to Nerano village (parking near church). No public transport to the trailhead. Alternatively, boat from Positano or Amalfi (seasonal tours).
Start from Nerano village (park near the church). The hike is easy but exposed โ bring a hat and water. Swimming goggles are essential: the underwater visibility is 15+ meters. Best visited May-June or September when the trail is not too hot.
