Erchie is a hidden hamlet between Maiori and Cetara — a cluster of whitewashed houses around a pristine sandy cove guarded by a medieval Saracen watchtower. The beach is small but exquisite: pale sand, clear water, and a handful of fishing boats pulled up at the edges. A single beachfront restaurant serves fresh catch of the day. The hamlet has maybe twenty permanent residents and no shops beyond the basics. Two defensive towers frame the cove — Torre di Erchie to the west and a ruined tower to the east — remnants of the coastal defense system against Ottoman raids. This is what the Amalfi Coast looked like before mass tourism.
Road access from SS163 (signed turnoff between Maiori and Cetara). Small parking area above the hamlet. SITA bus stop on main road.
Park on the road above and walk down (5 min). The restaurant Baia di Erchie serves the freshest grilled fish at half the price of Positano. Visit on a weekday — weekends bring families from Salerno.
