What Maiori is like.
The catastrophic 1954 flood destroyed the old center, giving it a more modern look with wide streets and hotels. But what Maiori gained is the longest beach on the entire coast (930m of volcanic sand), the best transport connections, and authentic local life that continues year-round — not just in tourist season. This is the practical, lived-in heart of the Amalfi Coast.

- Maiori is the best base for exploring the coast — central, well-connected, affordable, and with the most family-friendly beach.
- The seafront promenade at sunset is a local tradition. Join the passeggiata.
- Erchie (a quarter of an hour by car): a hidden fraction with a pristine beach, Saracen towers, and almost no tourists. Worth a half-day.
- Market day is Tuesday morning — local produce, cheese, limoncello.
- Budget tip: Maiori and Minori are 2-3x cheaper than Positano for equivalent quality.
