La Gavitella holds a rare distinction: it is the last beach on the Amalfi Coast to lose the sun each day. Facing due west with no cliffs to block the horizon, the light pours in until the very last moment, turning the sea gold and then copper before it disappears behind Capri. The beach itself is a narrow pebble strip reached by roughly 200 stairs from Via Terramare in Praiano. A single beach club serves cold drinks and light food. The water is deep and clear โ excellent for snorkeling along the rocks on either side. The climb back is demanding but the memory of the sunset makes it irrelevant.
Stairs from Via Terramare, Praiano. Seasonal boat shuttle from Marina di Praia. SITA bus stop nearby on SS163.
Arrive by 16:00 to claim a spot for the sunset show. Bring a snorkel โ the rocky sides of the cove have rich marine life. The boat service from Marina di Praia saves you the stairs.
